Bluebird Brewing was born out of a simple question: “Why can’t I get great craft beer in small kegs for my home tap?” I’m Michael — a long-time home brewer based in Lane Cove — and I started this brewery to make preservative-free, small-batch beer and cider accessible to everyone, not just home brewers. The only preservatives we add to our beers is hops, this versatile plant offers Flavour, Aroma, Bitterness and helps preserve the beer. Once we have packaged the beer, we are left with the used yeast and hops. These are composted on site and used to feed our flower garden which helps feed the bees who produce the Honey used in our brews. For years, beer in kegs was either too expensive, too large (50L+), or only available in limited styles from big producers. If you wanted great beer on tap at home, your only real option was to brew it yourself. But not anymore.
